Specialties of Martha Apple:
I am interested in the effects of climate change on plant biology with emphases on developmental and physiological responses of trees and alpine plants to warmer temperatures and seasonal variations. Much of my work involves microscopy and image analysis of cell types within conifer needles and of pollen, spores, and mycorrhizal plant roots. I am interested in Plant Functional Traits within the context of GLORIA. Recently, I've established monitoring sites of rare arctic and alpine plants that grow adjacent to permanent snowfields at Glacier National Park in Montana, USA.
